August 10-14, 2025 | Fairbanks, Alaska, USA
Dear Colleagues and friends,
As chairman of PetroPhase 2025 it gives me distinct pleasure to welcome you in advance to Fairbanks, Alaska—aptly dubbed the Golden Heart City in the great state of Alaska also known as the Last Frontier!
Our planned technical, social, and networking program from August 10-14 promises to be both insightful and engaging, including a student conference on Sunday, August 10. The conference will accept abstracts in the traditional PetroPhase topics of fluid characterization; emulsion and produced water management; upgrading and fouling; and flow assurance. New this year are two sessions on energy transition, covering H2 and renewables and CCS, CCUS, respectively and one on case studies and emerging technologies related to any of the PetroPhase and energy transition areas.
Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you all to the Golden Heart City of Fairbanks in the Last Frontier!
Best regards,
Abhijit Dandekar
Chairman, PetroPhase 2025
The North Slope of Alaska is home to the largest oilfield in North America, Prudhoe Bay, from which oil recovery is one of the highest of any oil field in the world in part because of the use of CO2 reinjection to enhance oil recovery.
Engineers the world over study the miscible gas injection project at Prudhoe Bay as a case study in excellence. In addition to that, although Alaska has between 20–30+ billion barrels OOIP viscous oil deposits, the recovery has been rather low due to multiple factors such as cost, logistics, uniquely challenging arctic environment, and viscosities from thousands of cP upto a million+ cP.
Another engineering marvel is the 48-inch diameter, 800 mile Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) that has been carrying oil from the North Slope of Alaska to West Coast refineries for 45+ years.
Alaska also is endowed with tremendous mineral resources that include coal, critical minerals, rare earth elements and the emerging Hydrogen, CCS and CCUS activities needed to power the Energy Transition.
Beyond its legacy resources and world-class infrastructure, Alaska is home to vast untapped natural resources that are poised for a promising future, with exciting new opportunities on the horizon for growth and development. Clearly, these resource riches bring with them the challenges that are germane to PetroPhase and thus what better place other than Alaska where we will gather to explore these important issues in the spirit of collaboration and innovation.
